Statement

What are maps? Representations of this world as cartographers see it and imagine it too be. They hold within themselves codes of construction, the physical world from a given point of view. I neither try to guide or prescribe that literally, but encourage the viewer/s to find their own way around the physical space. I draw inspiration from geographical places / geographies and my experiences with them. Having lived and studied art in an urban metropolis and traveled extensively in remote areas of Ladakh, my work/s reflects this stark contrast. At one level I draw out imaginary plans for the urban city arranging them in grids, networks and zones, calibrating human identity, against vertical constructions in the urban sprawls. At the other, I imagine borders and countries, intermingling with tangible ones supported by seas, lakes and mountains and neighboring nations. They are random clumps of landmass, reconstructed and patched on to one surface; imagined entities not within any geopolitical net.
