Biography

Born in 1933, Lothal (Gujarat), Himmat Shah completed his Diploma in Painting from M.S. University, Baroda in 1960 under the guidance of Narayan S. Bendre. Shah was a National Cultural Scholar and later received scholarship by the French Government to pursue Etching at Atelier17, Paris in 1967. He was the recipient of the Emeritus Fellowship by Government of India and was a Founder Member of the Group 1890. He has been awarded the National LKA Award and AIFACS Award among others. He has participated in several solo shows and in major group shows including the National Exhibition of Art Triennale, Lalit Kala Akademi, 1968; Paris Biennale, 1970; Contemporary Indian Art, Royal Academy of Art, London, 1982. His most recent Solo Show was held in London in 2007. He lives and works in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
