Biography

Born in 1930, Sojitra (Gujarat), Patel completed his graduation from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1955. He did his National Diploma in Typography and Publicity Design from Central School of Art and Craft, London in 1959. In 1976, he was appointed as professor and later become Dean at Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. University, Baroda. He is a recipient of several awards including National Award by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi 1957, 1963, 1973 & 1984; National Award for Design, 1976; Ravishankar Raval Award by Government of Gujarat, 1992. He has also been awarded Emeritus Fellowship by Indian Government, 1994. He visited XIV Sao Paulo Biennale, Brazil as one of the delegates. He was also conferred the Fellowship of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 2007. He has participated in many group shows including I, III, IV & V International Triennale, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi 1968, 1975, 1978 & 1981; XIV Sao Paulo Biennale International Exhibition, Brazil, 1977; VI British International Print Biennale, UK in 1979; III International Prints Biennale, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, 1994. He lives and works in Baroda, Gujarat.
