BiographyBorn in 1941, New Delhi, Rameshwar Broota studied at College of Art, New Delhi from 1960-64. During 1965-67 he taught at Delhi College of Art and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Since 1967 he has been the Head of the Art Department of Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. He has been awarded with three National Awards of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1980, 1981 & 1984. He has also received the Senior Fellowship by the Government of India in 1987 & 1988. He was conferred the L. N. Gupta Memorial Award, 1988 and the Kala Vibhushan by AIFACS, 1997. His works have been exhibited in III, IV & V International Triennale, Lalit Kala Akademi in 1975, 1978 & 1982; International Painting Festival, Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, 1976; Tokyo Biennale, Japan, 1984; II Havana Biennale, Cuba, 1986; Masanori Fukuoka's Contemporary Indian Art collection exhibition, National Gallery of Modern Art, 1997; '50 Years of Indian Independence', National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; 'Tryst with Destiny' at Singapore Art Museum, 1997; ‘Major trends in contemporary Indian art after Independence’, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and ‘Contemporary Art of India exhibition’ Peabody Essex Museum, USA, 1999. He held his solo show ‘Archeology of Experience’, at Shridharani Art Gallery, New Delhi and NGMA, Mumbai in 2004. He lives and works in New Delhi.
