Biography

He received his BFA in Painting from Visva Bharati, Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan in 1998 and MFA in Painting from Visva Bharati, Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan in 2000.

He has held eight solo shows of his works including “Cyberomanticisms” at Galerie, Alliance Francaise in 2011; “Netizens & Cyberscapes” at Lakeside Art Gallery West, Michigan City, USA in 2010; “SMS …. Buzzin Sensation”, Nitanjali Art Gallery in New Delhi in 2008, “Cross Cultural Celebration: Digital Video Installation and Net-based Art”, Faculty Gallery, UCSC, California in 2007, “Sensuality” Senior Gallery, University of California, Santa Cruz by DANM in 2007.

He has also participated in several group shows like “New Arrivals” at 34 Fine Art in Cape Town, South Africa in 2012; “Touching Sensation” at Lakeside Gallery West in Michigan City, USA in 2012; “Can You See Me” at Gallery Engendered in New Delhi in 2012; “Indien – Garten der Kunste”, ARTCO art gallery in Germany in 2011; “Art Spotting curated by Sushma K Bahl at Art Positive – a unit of BCAH, New Delhi in 2010; “Postcolonial Trends” at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi in 2010; “Acid, Base & Salt – The Litmus Test” at Ragini Art Gallery in New Delhi in 2010 etc.   

Satadru has also been part of many residencies such as the “Visiting Artists Residency” which was organised by the Triangle Arts Trust in Cape Town in 2011, “CRAC International Visiting Artists Environmental Art Residency” at Kushtia in Bangladesh in 2011, “US-INDIA Art and Cultural Exchange Program” at Lakeside Gallery West in Michigan City in USA in 2010, “The Why Not Place Art Residency Programme” at Religare Arts Gallery in New Delhi in 2009, “Indo-German Artists’ Residency” in Kolkata in 2007. 

He was also a participant in a 10-day workshop “One Minute Video Art” organised by the Sandberg Institute, Netherlands and Royal Netherlands Embassy in India and the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi in 2004. 

He has been awarded the Fulbright Scholarship for Digital Art and New Media, University of California, Santa Cruz for the year 2006-2007 and the Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation Awards for Painting in 2002-2003. He has also won the Camlin Colour Award in 1997-1998 and the Visva Bharati Merit Scholarship for the years 1993-1994, 1998-1999, 1999-2000. He lives and works in New Delhi.
