Statement

Dusk is collective consciousness personified. The transition between light and dark is a period when hidden fears surface. They have no basis in reality and are a shade that is darker than black. It is a time that is receptive to insecurities that cannot be explained and an urge to seek shelter. A sense of false security prevails that keeps in tradition with the contradictory nature of existence that things are never quite what they appear to be the seeming duality of all of creation...

Biography

S Gopinath did his B.F.A in Sculpture from College of Fine Arts, Bangalore and Post Diploma in Ceramic Sculpture from M.S. University, Baroda. His first solo show was held at Hotel Fortuneland Mark, Ahmedabad in 1999 and since then he has participated in many group shows, including those held at Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bangalore in 2003, 2002, 1999, 1997 and 1996 and at Mumbai in 2003 and 2002. He has also been a part of several workshops in India. He was awarded the Scholarship by Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy in 1995 and 1996, Kanoria Centre for Arts at Ahmedabad in 1997, National Scholarship, New Delhi in 2000, H.K.Kejriwal Young Artist Award in 1999 and AIFACS (State Award), Bangalore, Karnataka in 2001. Gopinath lives and works in Bangalore.
