Binoy Varghese

Biography

Born 1966 in Kerala, Binoy did his National Diploma in Fine Arts from R.L.V College of Fine Arts, Kerala. He was the artist-in-residence at Aicon gallery,new york in 2007; Banff Centre for Arts, Alberta, Canada in 2000 and Cholamandal Artists Village, Chennai during 1994-98. He has held Six one-man shows at New Delhi, Canada, Chennai. He has also participated in three Two-men shows and many group shows which include ‘Reading Paint’, Bangkok in 2007; ‘Definitively Provisional –II’, Copenhagaun, Denmark; 11th Asian Art Biennale, Bangladesh in 2004; Miami Art Festival, Sponsored by Jacob Karpio Gallery Costa Rica in 1999; 41st National Academy Exhibition, Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi in 1998. He has received several awards including the National Award by National Academy of Arts, New Delhi in 1998; a fellowship from the Madhavan Nair Foundation, Kochi in1993 and a scholarship from the Arnawaz- Vasudev Charitable Trust from 1994 to 1996. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.

Statement

‘My paintings are about the issues closer to my heart, In the new series of works I painted the children glowing in their dark and brown skin ,the social marker of their existence .selecting dark or brown complexioned persons or women in burka with unidentifiable complexion. I postulate body as information. The physical body of a person has become the embodiment of information regarding his identity.’

Prabhakar Kolte

Prabhakar Kolte

Biography

Born in 1946, Nerur Par (Maharashtra), Kolte received his diploma from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1968. He later joined Sir J. J. School of Art in 1972 and taught for 22 years till he retired in 1994. He has held many solo shows across the country and abroad and participated in group shows including Contemporary Art in Maharashtra, 1975; VI International Triennale, Lalit Kala Akademi; I National Bharat Bhavan Biennale, Bhopal in 1986; Six Indian Painters, Yugoslavia, Ankara & Istanbul in 1985; Contemporary Artists from SAARC countries, NGMA, 1992; Three Artists, Hong Kong, 1995; Galerie Foundation for Indian Artists, Amsterdam, 1996; ‘Modern Indian Art’, New York, 2001; ‘Tatva–The Elements’, London, 2006. In 2001 his solo show was organised by Galerie Mueller & Plate in Germany. He lives and works in Mumbai.

Shipra Bhattacharya

Shipra Bhattacharya

Biography

Born in 1954 in West Bengal, Shipra did her graduation from Calcutta University in 1975 and studied art at the Govt.College of Art & Craft and at the College of Visual Arts Calcutta, under guidance of Shuvaprasanna in 1977 and 1980 respectively.. Starting with her first solo show in her home town, she has held over 12 solo exhibitions across India and abroad. She has also participated in numerous group shows including at Singapore, Hong Kong, London, New York, Germany and Dubai. Four portfolios of her drawings and graphics have already been brought out and her work is held in important public, corporate and private collections both in India and abroad. She lives and works in Kolkata.

Veer Munshi

Veer Munshi

Biography

Born in Srinagar, Kashmir (1955), Veer presently lives and works in Delhi.He acquired his BA from Kashmir University (1976) and BFA (Painting) from M.S.U Baroda (1981). He has held his solo shows, ‘Encounter’ in 2006 by Art Alive Gallery in collaboration with India Habitat Center; also held shows in Mumbai twice in 1995 and 2004; New Delhi in 1992 and 2003; along with showing internationally in Scotland, Australia and Geneva in 1997, 1996 respectively. He has also participated in over 20 group-shows abroad and in India, to mention a few are: ‘Exploring New Paradigms’, at Art Alive, 2005, 11th Asian Art Biennale, Dhaka, Bangladesh; ‘Looking Back Looking Forward’ in Baroda, 2004; ‘Ways of Resistance’ in New Delhi, 2002 and ‘Trembling Images of Kashmir’, in New Delhi, 1993. Munshi has also been designing tableaux for Republic Day parade and was awarded for best-designed tableaux in 1997, 1999 and 2002. He actively participates in workshops, India and Abroad. He has been honored with Krishan Ju Razdan Puruskar by Vichar Manch, New Delhi in 2003; National Award from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 2002, J&K State Award for painting in 2001. He has received Junior Fellowship from Government of India in 1996-98 and Research Grant Fellowship from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 1991-92.

Yusuf

Yusuf

Biography

Born 1952 in Gwalior, Yusuf did his National Diploma in Fine Arts and National Diploma in Sculpture in Gwalior in 1974 and 1978 respectively. He is presently working with Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. He has held solo shows in New Delhi in 1980, 1986, 1990, 2000; Ahmedabad in 1985; Mumbai in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1982, 2001, 1997, 1998, 2004; Calcutta in 1982; Gwalior in 1976,1978, 1980; Bhopal in 1976, 1978; Japan in 1998 among others. He has also participated in several group shows across India and aboard. He is a recipient of M.P.State Award in 1977,80,81; All India Kalidas Award, Ujjain in 1977; All India Exhibition MKKP Raipur in1976,77; M.P.Youth & Social Welfare Award in1979; All India drawing Exhibition, Chandigarh in1984,85; State Raza Award, Bhopal in 1984;Bharat Bhavan Biennial, Bhopal in1986; National Award LKA New Delhi in1987; International Asian European Biennial, Turkey in 1990; Indian Eclectics Exhibition, New Delhi in1989; Govt.of India Fellowship HRD Ministry, New Delhi in 1989-92; QIONGDAO International Print Biennial of China in 2000; Shikhar Samman by Dept. of Culture, Govt. of M.P. in 2001 and Raza Foundation Award in 2004. He lives and works in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
