Maya Burman

Born in 1971 in Paris, Maya Burman studied architecture in Paris for 3 years. Burman's paintings have a tapestry-like effect where everything is subordinate to patterning. They are reminiscent of the French art nouveau tradition and European Middle Age architecture in the country where she lives, interlaced with mythical and folk-inspired imagery somewhat akin to miniature painting that stems from her Indian ancestry. Maya Burman's paintings make an interesting melting pot, a meeting ground between the two cultures, Indian and French traditions.  Maya has held numerous exhibitions of her work in the UK, India and France, such as Galerie Sauret, Fumel, France; Galerie 51; and the most recent are 'Garden of Dreams' at Nayan Naveli Gallery (2025), 'Games of Life' at Art Alive Gallery (2022), 'Art Now '19 Fourth Edition', Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi, India (2019), 'Celebrating Spring' at Art Alive Gallery (2017), Dastkar, Visual Art, London, UK (2007), Indian Embassy, Paris, France in 1999, Centre of International Modern Art, Kolkata, India (1996), and Villeneuve sur Lot, France, (1995) among others.  She has won several awards, including the Fine Art Association of Sannois Award (1998), the Salon d'Automne Paris Award (2000), and the Watercolours Painting Section Salon de Colombes Award (2001).
