Born in 1937, Suri, (West Bengal), Shaw completed his Diploma in Painting from Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata. He was a lecturer at Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan for more than 16 years. He is an elected member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata. He has received the National Award of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and the West Bengal State Lalit Kala Akademi Award in 1971. He began his career as a print-maker and has exhibited his works in several solo shows across India and abroad. He has also exhibited his works in many group shows including II British Biennale, London in 1970; VII Paris Biennale, France in 1971; Norwegian Print Biennale, Norway in 1974 & 1975; Whiteleys London in 1996. He resides and works in Kolkata.
