20th September 2011 - 31st October 2011
Art Alive Gallery, S-221 Panchsheel Park, New Delhi - 110017View WorksThe Making of Liverpool: Portraits of a City by The Singh Twins features an exhibition of selected Artists’ Signed and Numbered Collectors Edition Giclees and a new body of digital mixed media original artworks by The Singh Twins, which explores the artists’ creative connection with the city of Liverpool, UK, where they have lived and worked most of their lives. Represented is the diversity of themes for which they are known – from politics to pop-culture, multi-cultural history and society – as well as their creative development as artists. The exhibition also showcases their first animation film, the award-wining The Making of Liverpool, which brings to life one of the artworks on display.
The exhibition, which marks the launch of a new coffee table book (titled, The Making of Liverpool: Portraits of a City by The Singh Twins) and DVD (titled, The Making of Liverpool: Art in Motion) by The Twins, compliments the key themes of the Twins’ book and animation. Whilst the Collectors Edition Giclees on the show depict some of the most famous paintings from their personal touring body of work and private and public commissions, the new series of mixed media original artworks, titled, Mersey Miniatures, presents a surreal, ‘Indian infused’ vision of Liverpool through a style combing modern creative digital media and traditional painting techniques.
Collectively, the exhibition not only celebrates a region that the Twins think of as home in UK but also showcases how the people and heritage of India, as a place which the Twins identify with as home in their hearts, have made their mark on and continue to contribute to histories, cultures and societies outside of India.
