Yusuf Arakkal

Yusuf Arakkal (1945 – 4 October 2016) did his diploma in painting from Chitrakala Parishath College of Art, Bangalore in 1973. For his specialization in graphic print making he went to National Art Acedemy Community Studios, Garhi, New Delhi, in 1980. After holding his first solo show in 1975 he has held over several solo shows in Bangalore, Madras, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Calicut, Cochin, Trichur, Calcutta, Mumbai and New Delhi and has also had around ten solo shows abroad including Singapore, New York, London & Hong Kong. He has also participated in international shows including ‘Sixth Biennale de Beaux Art’, Beaumount, France, ‘Third Asian Art Biennale’, Bangladesh, ‘Sixth International Triennale’, New Delhi and ‘Ninth International Biennale de Sao Paulo’, Brazil. He received the Lalit Kala Akademi Award in 1979 and in 1981, the Shiromani Kala Puruskar from the Government of India, in 1983, and the award of the Third Asian Art Biennale, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1986. Yusuf Arakkal passed away in October 2016.
