'When High and Low Art Meet..’ is an exhibition which brings new meaning to the fusion of the `low’ art of Ravi Varma’s oleographs and the inspiration derived thereof by contemporary Indian artists to make their own `high’, personalised art.

Ravi Varma’s oleographs have in the past stimulated the imagery of a few contemporary Indian artists. But with this exhibition it would be provocative to speculate on the idea of the oleographs as catalysts, as offered to a larger group of Indian artists.

This exhibition hopes to bring new creative expression and imagery to art lovers. There will be many ways that the contemporary artistic sensibility will react to Ravi Varma’s oleographs in particular and to popular art in general. This could range from the narrative to the ironic, the kitsch and the decorative or offer a commentary on contemporary times.
