Radhika Surana
Born in 1968, Radhika is a contemporary visual artist, based in Delhi. She firmly advocates formal training as an essential guide for artists to infuse their creations with emotion. Having been exposed to Indian classical music from an early age, Tara’s art is indelibly imbued with a rhythmic visual and lyrical essence. Through scars, burns, stitches, and layered fabrics and layered fabrics symbolizing repair, her works mirror the complexities of human relationships. These visual narratives resonate deeply, while her meditative embroidery technique draws a compelling parallel between the meandering thread and the ever-shifting nature of human connections. As Mahatma Gandhi used khadi as a call for Indian identity, a fabric that signified freedom, so does Radhika use embroidery, craft, and indigo as tools for artistic expression.
Radhika Surana received her BFA from Rajasthan University in Jaipur under eminent artist Dwarka Prasad Sharma. Composed of intricate layers, her meticulous embroidery mirrors the complexities of human relationships. She has exhibited her work extensively including at the Lalit Kala Akademi, Taj Palace, India Habitat Center, and Udaipur’s City Palace.
